Nepenthes – Pitcher Plants
Nepenthes are unique carnivorous plants that can survive in very poor soil, as it has naturally modified the tip of its leaves into liquid-containing pitchers that trap and digest insects. Numerous species have been identified and the largest (Nepenthes Rajah) recorded contained four litres of liquid and was found digesting a rat. The pitchers form colourful cups and are often flushed with maroon and pink. It comes in a variety of funny shapes and sizes that depict a saxaphone.
